…trying not to become a man of success, but rather a man of value. (Albert E.)
Enough with positive thoughts
Check out how my morning looked like.
For years, I’ve been in Uppsala, a week then, a week now.. It all looked nice and felt good.
Now, I’m a Stockholm resident, and you’ve seen what this place was like for the very first two weeks. It’s almost the same amount of Romanian shit, but in a different shape.
But on Wednesday I was back in Uppsala… oh boy!
When you have nothing to compare with, you just tell yourself “This is it! It’s not like there’s something better..” and you just take it as it is. And it was almost like that until Wednesday. Let me phrase all this so that everyone understands.
I arrived yesterday in Sweden (August 14th), and I stayed with a friend in just outside Uppsala for the first night. 800 SEK for the cab fare all the way from Arlanda. It’s a huge price, but I’ve never taken a cab before. And this time, with 43 kg following me, I think it was needed.
Got up and took the train to Stockholm. Left my two suitcases in the lockers there: 50 SEK for the big one, 40 SEK for the small one. I think this is the fee for 24 hours “hosting”. You need coins - so if you don’t have, you could use a machine that exchanges notes into coins, or just to Forex to exchange some money and kindly ask the personell to give you 100 SEK in coins for the lockers
That did the trick!
In October 2007, after 1 year of TUC and 3 years of RAU (plus almost 4 months of WSHE), there I was thinking there is only one more year to go at RAU, and then I’ll live my Swedish dream. But oh boy, were there going to be some dizzy months to come! Nifty months :), but still..
So along with the final Bachelor year, I headed towards Swedish admissions for Masters. After just a couple of months, it felt a bit overwhelming from a logistic point of view. And when time comes to organize,
I take it dead serious
I didn’t get a place at the dorms that scholastic year, and getting a private flat would have been just too much money for too little. So I thought of plying between Galați (my hometown) and Bucharest every week or so, in order to go to courses and exams. Ended up doing 25000+ km by train in less than 10 months..
It was more than ok, despite what people think.
Merely a living soul;
mostly one that survives.
Often seeing the best in people;
surely one that dies trying.
