Let’s say that a freshly admitted student, name him a whoever Ikrom.. wants to get a bank account in Sweden, after getting his personnummer.

He goes, with his admission letter, passport, photo, personbevis for bank account, etc, etc.

He ends up at a branch and is told that they cannot give bank accounts to people without Swedish ID cards, and instruct him to go to the Police in order to get a Swedish ID card.

Stor- stockholms Lokaltrafik

I was looking at SL.se for options to get a public transport card. The first thing you hear blows you away: 690 SEK for a month. All lines, I know, but.. 70€?? You could go to London for that money… 4 times back and forth!

The main options are

  • the 30 days card - 690 SEK
  • Season card, which gets you from September to December with 2670 SEK
  • Student card, which gets you from September to December with 1780 SEK

My luggage

6 Aug 2008 Filed under Education, How To, Personal Sequenced 6/35 in Induction at KTH Kista

Another problem, another solution..

On my way to Sweden, I’m flying SAS. They have a 20kg limit for the luggage, and 8kg limit for cabin luggage.

When you put that together with the fact that you’re moving for at least 2 years… uuuuuu!! Not good! But let’s see where this takes me. I got a nice suitcase and a smaller one for the cabin (fits the size restrictions). Then there’s the laptop bag!

I really suggest looking carefully for light suitcases, since otherwise you will waste all that limit, no matter how easy they are on you. And don’t buy expensive ones, if they are not “steel strong”. Ground services nowadays are quite lame at airports, so you’re bags have a high chance of getting tossed. So keep them light and cheap. My big suitcase is 4kg, while the small cabin one is just 2.5kg. And they were altogether around 100€.

That leaves 20+8-4-2.5 = 21.5 kg just for me-me-me.
