…trying not to become a man of success, but rather a man of value. (Albert E.)
Let’s recap: The system runs in two phases, or rounds, in order to occupy as many places as possible.
So any rejection will leave a place available for somebody else.
That place will be available during a second Admission Round.
And respectively, a second round of notifications will follow, along with applicants accepting or rejecting the admission.
After they decide, there won’t be any more changes/invitations/rounds.
So if you have an alternative marked with “Res #” that means that you are on a waiting list (reserve), in case people with a higher position on the ranking list will reject their position at that specific department. If # accepted students in the first Admission Round will reject their position, then you will get a second Notification of Admission in about 3 weeks with that alternative now marked “Admitted”.
In order to get in you need to have the following bellow zero (negative number) your_reserve_position - admitted_rejections - reserve_rejections. It’s just informative, since you won’t know how many among the admitted or among the reserves in front of you will reject the programme.
Your position in the ranking list of that programme is NOT equal to “Acc. in S.G.” + #. And above that, this year (2008) the reserves have been randomly picked/ordered1, thus unfortunately those in front of you on the waiting list are not necessarily more qualified. That would imply that they may desperately accept any offer they get.
So far, it’s not clear if you need to reply if all you’ve got is waiting lists - that is, only “Res #” and no “Admitted”, but my personal suggestion is to reply positively. The logic? Well, if you do not reply, then you may be considered as “not interested in the programme any longer”, so you will be ignored during the second Admission Round.
At this moment it is also not clear (=confirmed) what should be done in case you were admitted to one programme and you are on the waiting list for another that you would like more. You should check with universities, but the response so far was that you should accept in the first Admission Round the alternative where you got “Admitted”. You will still remain on the waiting lists for the other alternatives, for the second Admission Round.
If you get in, to one of those alternatives during the second round, then you can opt in for one of those. Unfortunately, I guess that will lead to positions being occupied just virtually - since there is no other admission round, and then the alternative you previously accepted will have no possibility to be fill in with the next on the waiting list, which all in all it’s not fair but it’s too complex to explain here (in short, those who get admitted in the first round, anywhere, get a favour of getting a chance at 2/3/.. places which won’t be possible for others to take).
Once again! Check with universities and proceed with cautious!
Keep in mind that only some of those admitted in the first round, and with a programme eligible for SI scholarships will be nominated for a one.
By the time the applicants will need to have their last word on this, it is highly improbably that they will know if they got a scholarship or not.
Just to be clear, nominated applicants (not sure, but most probably) will not have any information whether they have or have not received a scholarship or not from the Swedish Institute before the replying deadline is reached.

@Kamram
thanks! any idea about Urvalsgrupp 1? and one last question, why is so important the SG when that link says u are accepted when ur MR is 999? and why people say 998 is that u are in the 1st waiting list, 997 in the 2nd and so on? in this case SG wouldnt be that important….well, let’s wait.
and u can borrow that link whenever u want hehe!!

@Peke
Dear,these are my spectulation not the exact figures. I got art of understanding MR and SG after regularly reading experiences shared by different students who have applied through studera and getting emails from respective universities. And yeah SG certainly make a difference,example if you get SG=DA it means you are in without any doubt while other SGs ask you to wait till 8th May for their meaning. PG and IM are strong SGs and SA represent late applications.

Linköping is my first option in Sweden, and im applying for the Energy and Environmental Engineering Master Programme.
what about u? (Qasim & Kamran)

@all
I have recived this today:
You are conditionally qualified to this master’s programme. A Bachelor’s degree is an entrance requirement for the master’s programme. Therefore, if you are admitted, the condition is that we recieve officially certified copies of your diploma and transcripts of record by 15 October 2008. Applicants who have not provided these documents will not be allowed to take part in the master’s programme.
what does it mean!!?? im gonna die one of these days!

hi everyone. my profile went from showing an SG and MR for the past weeks to now having a status simply saying that “Preparation for selection/Selection running” with no SG or MR. did this happen to anyone else? just curious.
i also noticed that someone asked about the SI scholarship process. look up my previous post about it - i posted information i got from an admissions officer.
good luck to us all!!!

@peke:
It means exactly what it says. You have to send officially certified copies of your diploma and transcripts to the department you applied to. If can’t understand a simple paragraph like that then you might what to reconsider your capability to do a masters program in English.

@Mister E
Im sorry if u dont understand what i meant, but u dont need to insult me. Of course i know what the message says, what i dont know is what it means because they say the deadline to send the diploma is in ocober and the master starts in august, so what I DONT KNOW is if i am conditionally accepted because it also says IF U ARE ADMITTED…but it doesnt say that i am conditionally admitted.
anyway i dont know why i explain this to u, i prefer u dont reply me again because u dont know me and certainly much better for me
so please, next time measure your words or think before to reply someone because i prefer not to have to read those pointless and disrespectful words. This website is to help people not to judge them.
maybe u should consider your capability to take a master program in which u will work in a team, because i think first of all is to be a good person and definitely, although i dont judge without knowing, i wouldnt like to be ur mate.

peke:
I got the same message as you. I applied to LiU and my SG is 1 and MR 999 as all LiU applicants seem to have. I’ll graduate in June and I think that some of the Master’s programs will start later in fall, in September or even October and that’s why the documents could be sent in later.
I think it would be pointless to send us those messages (about the diplomas) if they wouldn’t choose us but all we really can do is just wait and see how it turns out. Good luck to you!
