…trying not to become a man of success, but rather a man of value. (Albert E.)
Let’s recap: The system runs in two phases, or rounds, in order to occupy as many places as possible.
So any rejection will leave a place available for somebody else.
That place will be available during a second Admission Round.
And respectively, a second round of notifications will follow, along with applicants accepting or rejecting the admission.
After they decide, there won’t be any more changes/invitations/rounds.
So if you have an alternative marked with “Res #” that means that you are on a waiting list (reserve), in case people with a higher position on the ranking list will reject their position at that specific department. If # accepted students in the first Admission Round will reject their position, then you will get a second Notification of Admission in about 3 weeks with that alternative now marked “Admitted”.
In order to get in you need to have the following bellow zero (negative number) your_reserve_position - admitted_rejections - reserve_rejections. It’s just informative, since you won’t know how many among the admitted or among the reserves in front of you will reject the programme.
Your position in the ranking list of that programme is NOT equal to “Acc. in S.G.” + #. And above that, this year (2008) the reserves have been randomly picked/ordered1, thus unfortunately those in front of you on the waiting list are not necessarily more qualified. That would imply that they may desperately accept any offer they get.
So far, it’s not clear if you need to reply if all you’ve got is waiting lists - that is, only “Res #” and no “Admitted”, but my personal suggestion is to reply positively. The logic? Well, if you do not reply, then you may be considered as “not interested in the programme any longer”, so you will be ignored during the second Admission Round.
At this moment it is also not clear (=confirmed) what should be done in case you were admitted to one programme and you are on the waiting list for another that you would like more. You should check with universities, but the response so far was that you should accept in the first Admission Round the alternative where you got “Admitted”. You will still remain on the waiting lists for the other alternatives, for the second Admission Round.
If you get in, to one of those alternatives during the second round, then you can opt in for one of those. Unfortunately, I guess that will lead to positions being occupied just virtually - since there is no other admission round, and then the alternative you previously accepted will have no possibility to be fill in with the next on the waiting list, which all in all it’s not fair but it’s too complex to explain here (in short, those who get admitted in the first round, anywhere, get a favour of getting a chance at 2/3/.. places which won’t be possible for others to take).
Once again! Check with universities and proceed with cautious!
Keep in mind that only some of those admitted in the first round, and with a programme eligible for SI scholarships will be nominated for a one.
By the time the applicants will need to have their last word on this, it is highly improbably that they will know if they got a scholarship or not.
Just to be clear, nominated applicants (not sure, but most probably) will not have any information whether they have or have not received a scholarship or not from the Swedish Institute before the replying deadline is reached.

hey Andrei;
My SG is AU and MR is 1.. not meaning to look at other candidates but is this bad sign( I know we find out next week!!) . I was admitted last year but had to pursepone to 2008 b/c of some family issues. Looking at all the other candidates..my SR is pretty low
is this a cause for concern ???
Thanks again.
i think we should all pitch in a buy Andrei a gift for this wonderful blog…

@all: There’s really nothing much to say other than read this!
To which I add.. Selection Group DA always means Direct Admission, which means you are a special case. It is yet not confirmed, but DA also gives you the possibility to have that alternative as a real choice. Meaning you might be accepted by Priority1 with a different SG, and you could have DA for Priority2. In that case you will be asked to choose between the two.
@Lisa Lowen: I could think of a number of wishes for that
Actually, I was indeed considering putting a PayPal donation button.. though it feels a bit immoral to do so. On the other hand, I’ve been doing much of studera.nu’s job.. Don’t know. It was just a flash.
@Sri Phani: Congrats!Wait for a confirmation of my congrats on May 8th!

Hey there to all. Especially to Andrei Neculau.
I have read a pile of comments, and i also have mr’s, along with sg’s - the only thing that i know for sure, is that no one know for sure. But i let’s get to the point.
I have a different question (i guess, and if not, please give a link to the answer) - i am wondering what will happen after the 8th of may. I mean - so we get our mr’s and sg’s - what’s going to happen next. If (let’s suppose) someone was, or is able to be admitted to several universities - how it is decided where he will be admitted. I guess the main two choices are
1 Either the HQ choose where to “admit” him (i mean at single university) - which is quite logical
2 Or the student chooses - which i consider less logical, because this way universities with less popularity will “suffer” + this will lead to much more confusion in the admission process…but you never know for sure
I understand that it’s quite early to be asking such a question, but maybe you can share something on this
PS - i have also a question about the scholarships - how and when students get informed about the fact, whether they were given the scholarship or not.
Anyways - thank you for your support - just think about the amount of good you are doing for students all across the world (and i agree that you are doing a big pile of work for studera - they should merit you)).
Have a nice day

Each uni has different SG and MR rules.
KTH has 52 highest MR; Halmstd has 1300 highest MR;KI has 15 highest MR;Lund has 999 highest MR;Orebro has 999 highest MR and so on.
SG is also useful to predict something about your MR.
MR=999 with SG=DA means you have been accepted without any doubt.
MR=999 with SG=OS/PG etc means you have been considered as eligible candidate but decision has to be taken.
For example You applied to programme XYZ which has 10 places.
Admission commitee found 15 candidates as eligible and assign them MR=999.
Here the final decision will be based on gender (some uni prefer female) and your previous academic background. If you have excellent academic record then other candidates, you will receive admission letter but in case you don’t have a good academics then you will be asked to wait for 2nd round of admission and if any place is not accepted by admitted candidate then you will be offered that vacant seat.
Many people who got MR=999 but SG=DA have received admission letters from universities( allthough officially admissions will be announced on 8th) but SG=DA is a something very special case and DA stand for Direct Admission.
If you got OS at Uppsala then you will have to wait till 8th as I can’t say anything about this selection groups just I can translate OS as “Eligible without merit based evaluation”
You should conclude from above facts about your selection group. Perform pray regularly and do pray for all of us too.
And sorry i forgot to paste link about LUND MR here. Visit following link to see yourself what Lund uni say about MR.
