…trying not to become a man of success, but rather a man of value. (Albert E.)
Right, so lets deal with these two unknown variables.
This means (common logic) that you have been allocated a specific group, inside which you are “fighting” for your place. Your direct contestants are part of the same group.
E.g. LUMAS, INT08, MAAU, DA, BG, GRP1, HV, UTL, UB, AU,
The Selection Group is often a Swedish abbreviation, so no wonder you cannot figure out what they mean. Also on the English version you do not get the description of the Selection Group. In order to get the Swedish description you need to switch to the Swedish version of your Application page. In order to do so just go to the browser’s address bar and add “&=sv” and hit Enter.
At the bottom of the Swedish version, you will find descriptions for all your Selection Groups in Swedish.
Regarding Master Applicants, common logic and experience says that the number shown under Merit Rating is the equivalent of the number of ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) that are relevant to your chosen course/programme.
It is known that the MR is influenced by what the priority that programme has. In less words, from two people with the same qualification, the one who has chosen the programme as a higher priority will be “rewarded” for that with a higher MR.
Some applicants will have quite a high rating, 700+, 900+ or even 9900+.
That Merit Rating is somehow including other aspects as well - for instance country of residence.
Look at this like a subdivision of the Selection Group. It is a marker, since this is simply INTERNAL evaluation. That doesn’t mean that they are more qualified than somebody else with MR 180, with a different Selection Group.
Bottom line is that even if you know exactly what your SG and MR means, you cannot have any perspective regarding your acceptance probability.
Firstly, you do not know how the others are doing (their MR for instance). So you cannot compare yourself with others.
Secondly, both the SG and MR are university based. Therefore you cannot have a good reference to compare with. Remember! SG and MR are just for internal evaluation.
That is why the best thing to do after you send all your documents, and before the processing deadline passes, is to just enjoy life. Don’t worry about what SG and MR you have.

At “Your pages” on studera.nu, information is shown about your application status. There have been questions about the meaning of some of this information. Please disregard this for the time being, since not all of it is relevant for the outcome of the selection. The final decision is communicated in the Notification of Admission. Until then, KTH will not be able to change the assessments or answer any question about the status of individual applications.

@Djellel: No! DA is simply one of the possible Selection Groups!
DA is just “whatever the rankings are, this student is accepted anyway”. Others, within other Selection Groups, will simply go through the system and be accepted or not.
All of those accepted in the first round (meaning now, during May 8-15) will be taking their chance at a SI scholarship.

Hi Andrei;
You mean to tell me they have changed the dates AGAIN!!!
You know I am begining to consider univerities elsewhere- not just because I am nervous but to me the administration process is the first sense of what the ultimamte experience is goign to be with the school- if they can’t simply process applications with clear and susinct notifications..who’s to say just how organized their programs are depite it being free- or perhaps this is the very reason for the debacle.

Hi Andrei;
This is my last note; but i wanted to give a word of thanx- your blog has truly been my saving grace. I have decided not to go to Sweden- I have not even got my final decision- i will not wait around for their circus date changing ways. I am now deciding between 2 schools in the US and 4 in the UK. Might i just add; the school in the US only had 3 people processing thousands of applicants and it not a shot gun approach as with the Swedes. The thing thaat most influced my desion was : that if the administration process is the first sense of what the ultimamte experience is goign to be with the school…i think it wise not to even partake.
One again thank u

One more note; If i was excepted last year and they didn’t call me until a week before classed started…why would they categorize me with all the new applicant. When they called me last year i was told that i was one of their top top candidates- what a joke! Its funny but the department has not responded to my email or phone call from over a week ago.

@Andrei
I went through this exact same process last year to be admitted to Lunds Universitetet so I don’t know how you could characterize it as “their first year.”
@Florence C
I totally agree with your rationale and I’d be surprised if other quality candidates don’t make the same decision. It’s a good thing you didn’t put all your eggs in one basket (like I did).

@Florence C: I missed your comment yesterday, but I can only tell you what I told Nicholas:
Hope you will find yourself a nice university! You definitely seem to be worth of a good uni.
And believe me I know that after reading thousands of comments coming from every corner of the globe and culture.

Today I have found a new message in my personal page, follow application section.
The message is “Please note: The new publishing date for the Notification of Admission will be May 8″.
So I think my result will be shown in that date and not on 15th.
Anyone else has had the same message?

thank you for this site - the information has been very useful and it’s nice to learn that others are on the same boat.
regarding the SI scholarships this is what i got from a masters program admissions officer:
“One candidate per program may or may not be selected by the SI scholarship committee. Usually the program suggests 2-4 candidates to SI. Chances are very low. Sorry.”
each qualified masters program (there are 200 or so) submits a short list of SI scholarship candidates; then the SI chooses 150-200 students for the scholarship. statistically-speaking it rings true that only one candidate, at most, per program will receive a scholarship. good luck to us all!

@Jacopo
yes, i have it, and it says ‘Message to all applicants’, so i guess everybody has it. anyway i’m loosing my patience and my hope, ive been rejected in norway and it was THE ONE i wanted
They told me, we are sorry but there were many good applicants for this programme. They asked me to have finished my degree and this will hopefully be in june, but it seems they couldn wait for me to do just one exam(although they told me i was welcome to apply, yes, we are always welcome to apply)…anyway it is true there are a lot of great candidates out there, and sometimes, when there are so many it is just about luck, like a lotery
let’s see what happen with sweden
wish u the best all of u!!

Andrei! Thanks for this site-Yo great. After getting an MR of DA in my second choice program, I have got a PG in my first choice program with a massage: “Platsgaranti” translated as place guarantee according to the Lexin on-line dictionary. Does “Platsgaranti” mean, I have a place in this program

Kind regards.
